The raw hazelnut price in Lira terms has traded in a tight band over the last few months, with the USD/TRY being the main cause of price movement. The new crop looks to have cleared the frost period basically unscathed, which should help provide support for a much larger yield than last year. That being said, August (harvest) is still a long way away. Rumors of government price support for next season are starting to circulate the market again, which at this point has had little impact on the price.

For current crop, quality is still a concern. Sorting costs are now starting to increase as the poorer quality hazelnuts are reaching the market. Expect to see a widening gap between low and high quality hazelnuts.
