The world almond market remains stable and in general terms, the industry is well sold.
October 2017 was an all time record with an October Californian almond shipment
month at 246.5 million pounds. This is 4.5% up on 2016’s record October and the
increase was both domestic and for export.
Even though the USA crop is still expected to be a record 2.25 billion pounds, a lot of
concern remains about higher levels of chips, scratches and doubles from this season.
This means offers on good quality Supreme and Extra #1 grade natural almonds is more
problematic this season compared to last season. Closer to home, there looks to be frost
damage in some regions from the recent bloom which could adversely affect the total
volume available from the 2018 Australian crop. More will be known on this in a few
weeks.
